Car of the Decade & World Rally Champion

Every Subaru WRX comes standard with something you won’t find in a spec sheet: history. Originally launched in Japan in 1992, WRX became popular all around the world, eventually finding its way to Australia in 1994.

The effect was magnetic and immediate. The seductive combination of Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive together with its compact turbocharged Boxer engine in a distinctively muscular package excited many an Aussie driver.

It was a success in more ways than one. Subaru WRX STI’s World Rally Championship pedigree became the stuff of legend. Led initially by famed Scottish rally driver Colin McRae, Subaru was the first Japanese automobile company to win three consecutive manufacturer’s championships.

In Australia, WRX STI dominated the Australian Rally Championships from 1996 - 2005, with an astonishing ten consecutive driver’s championships and eight manufacturer’s championships.

After more than 10 years away, Subaru was back on the Australian rally scene in 2016. And we meant business. The Subaru do Motorsport team were hell-bent on extending our record-breaking legacy of championship wins.

Campaigning a turbocharged Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive WRX STI NR4 and aided by the invaluable experience of co-driver Bill Hayes and the Les Walkden Really team, Subaru do Motorsport team driver Molly Taylor became the first female winner of the Australian Rally Championship.

Subaru WRX’s appeal is universal. In 2000 it was crowned ‘Car of the Decade’ by the prestigious CAR Magazine UK, not bad given the distinguished local competition.

Now into its third decade, WRX’s popularity, not to mention the car itself, shows no sign of slowing down.

Performance

Performance

All Wheel Power

With the superior grip of the legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, Subaru WRX and WRX STI are ready for any road, beach or rugged mountain ahead. They grip the road with all four wheels, all the time, giving you double the traction capability, greater precision and even more cornering power.

Performance

Legendary Boxer Engine

Less noise, more power. The impressive engine performance of Subaru WRX is at the core of its appeal. Sitting lower and flatter in the engine bay, the famous Subaru Boxer engine is designed to create less noise and vibration in the cabin, whilst the lower centre of gravity improves stability and traction on the road, meaning you can corner with even more confidence.

Performance

Smart to Sporty

The turbocharged Subaru WRX and WRX STI are smart enough to adapt their driving styles to suit your day, thanks to Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive)1. Choose from Intelligent (I) mode for everyday driving, Sport (S) mode for enhanced acceleration and sporty performance, and Sport Sharp (S#) mode for a truly exhilarating drive.
